The last blog introduced the distressing and unsightly fungal infection Onychomycosis, an infection that can spread from one toe to another.   There are treatments such as having the effected nail thinned so that a topical anti-fungal agent like Gluconazole or Lamisil cream are topically applied unfortunately these have not proved to be very effective.  Drugs such as Lamisil which must be prescribed by your GP can be effective however it is very expensive and there are also serious risks to the liver.

A new and revolutionary laser treatment is now available which after only two treatments has proven to be very effective in the treatment of onychomycosis.  This is not an instant cure, but clinical studies can reveal that 75% of treated patients show a significant improvement.  In most cases, fungal nails are completely cured.

The laser is completely safe.  It does not harm the nail or surrounding skin.  Some patients may experience some slight discomfort, but the treatment is completely painless and no anaesthesia is needed.  The laser is a specially designed, patented medical device that shines through the toenail and vaporizes the pathogens embedded in the nail bed that causes toenail fungus.

The treatment which can be taken here at Beauchamp Foot & Nail Laser Clinic only takes approximately 30 minutes.  Further the vast majority of patients require only one treatment.  On average toenails will replace themselves every 6 to 9 months.  So there will be visible healthy new growth over this period as the nail continues to grow.

Clinical studies have shown that there have been no adverse reactions, injury or disability to the laser treatment there has also been no side effects either which makes laser treatment a very safe option.

As Laser treatment is considered aesthetic it is not covered by health insurance plan.   The treatment here at Beauchamp Foot & Nail laser Clinic is always carried out by fully qualified podiatrists who are also trained in the use of the equipment.  If you think you may have this condition and want to have it treated please contact the clinic.
