WHAT IS TOENAIL FUNGUS?

Toenail fungus or Onychomycosis is a common infection and effects around 900 million people worldwide.
The nail plate can appear thickened, yellow or cloudy and will often become rough and crumbly and even separate from the nail bed.
Although this can be argued as purely an aesthetic problem, the nail can become difficult to cut and very brittle. On top of this particles can collect under the nail which has separated from the nail bed and become odorous.

HOW DOES THE LASER WORK?
The laser light passes through the toenail without causing damage to the nail or the surrounding skin. At the time of the procedure, the toenail will not become instantly clear, as it takes time to grow out.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN THE CLINIC?
A free consultation with your podiatrist, the procedure to be performed, and any follow-up visits as prescribed by your podiatrist.

IS THE PROCEDURE PAINFUL?
Most people feel no pain. Some people feel a warming sensation and very few feel a pinprick.

IS THERE A RECOVERY PERIOD?
No. Just walk in and walk out.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?
The FootLaser procedure takes about 30 minutes, but we allow 1 hour for the treatment and consultation.

CAN THE TOENAIL FUNGUS RETURN?
The infection usually improves following one treatment and typically your podiatrist will recommend after care techniques to reduce any recurrence of the fungus infection. There is a chance of reinfection because the fungus is present everywhere in the environment.

CAN I HAVE A PEDICURE OR PAINT MY NAILS?
Yes you can paint your nails immediately after this procedure.

HOW DO I PAY FOR MY PROCEDURE?

IS THE REMOVAL OF TOENAIL FUNGUS COVERED BY MY MEDICAL INSURANCE?
This procedure is considered aesthetic and therefore health insurance does not provide coverage.

HOW MUCH DOES THIS PROCEDURE COST?
The cost is between £250 and £750 depending on how many nails are infected. This is for the procedure and two follow up appointments to assess the nail growth and progress. Photographs are taken at all stages.
